  • 1982-1988 German and English Literature and European Ethnology studies at the universities of Freiburg and Munich
  • 1988 M.A.Degree at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Munich (LMU)
  • 1988-1994 research assistant at the Institute of European Ethnology (LMU)
  • 1994 PhD Degree at the LMU
  • 1994-1996 research project on “National Identity and the Perception of ‘Foreigners’  in Germany” (Deutsche Identität und das Zusammenleben mit Fremden) (LMU), funded by the “VW-Stiftung”
  • Several Lectureships for Intercultural Communication Studies in Munich (LMU) and Basel/Switzerland
  • 1996-1998 Post Doc-position at the Institute of European Ethnology (LMU)
  • 1998-2001 member of an interdisciplinary research group (Forschergruppe Gesellschaftsvergleich), funded by the “Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft” and located at Humboldt University, Berlin: “Comparing Societies”, research project: “Cultural variety and representation of national values: A comparison of Germany and Hungary”
